A few years back India was known as a poor and backward country developing with a considerably slow rate. The situation changed substantially when Indian economy was liberalized in the beginning of 1990s and India emerged as not only an economically strong country but in educational field also it won world wide recognition. Indian students from its premier institutions were welcomed across the world by big corporate houses and their services and achievements wrote a new success story of Indian education.

Many Indians won international prizes, including Nobel prizes, for their contributions in the field science, technology, arts, literature; research and development in their respective fields. The boom in the IT sector in the world and contributions of Indian IT professionals globally was an eye opener for the entire world and the Indian educational institutions like IIMs, IITs and others soon became a popular destination for everybody who seek quality education.

There are many world class universities and institutions in India spread in its different states and cities. Presently, there are around 343 universities, 17000 colleges, 11 open universities and 66 distance learning educational institutions to cater to the requirement and the Indian government and the state governments have plans to open many more in the near future to cater to the growing demand of higher education.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Procedure: – Detailed admission procedure and eligibility criteria may vary from institution to institution or university to university because of the diversity in India but in broad sense it is same because of unity in India. Students seeking admission in India need to follow the rules and regulations set by Education Consultants of India Ltd.

Under graduate courses: – A candidate seeking admission for an undergraduate course must possess Higher Secondary/ 10+2 stage or its equivalent/ GCE’A’ level certificate with a required minimum percentage of marks which may vary depending on the institution and with required subjects the candidate seeking admission in.

Graduate courses: – A candidate seeking admission for a graduate course must be a pass in undergraduate course or its equivalent with the required subjects he is seeking admission in.

Requirements for foreigners: -

  • A valid passport (minimum for six months)
  • A provisional admission certificate or confirmed letter of acceptance from a college or a university or institution.
  • Proof of availability of sufficient funds
  • AIDS-free certificate
  • Health certificate
  • Student Visa
  • Proof of long term (at least three years)/ permanent residence in the country

Indian institutions offer a wide range of courses and a student seeking admission must inquire in advance about them. Admissions take place in March/ April and academic session starts in July/ August every year. Application forms and detail information can be obtained from ECIL or the websites of the concerned university or UGC.
